You need to get rid of the nest, now when I was in North Carolina I lived in the country and they were outside my home. My little one was playing in the grass and they bit her bottom poor little thing.
I was mad. I got out my husband's blow torch and took out the nest I found just outside our fence line. it melts away in fire. I have no problem with taking out fire ants in yards!
You have an infestation in the house you need a pro to locate the nest and take it out completely. Those bites will hurt your baby you need to protect your household from them now.

They are terrible to get rid of and are so nasty. There are specific poisons for fire ants. I can't remember the name of the one I had that got rid of the big mounds in my back yard but I sprinkled a ring around each mound and it guaranteed that the ants would take it back to the queen and that would be the end. It worked. You need to immediately put some of that particular type of poisons outside around the mounds. I've been known to pour in about a gallon a gasoline into mounds at night and light it and let it burn. That will slow them down quickly. You must keep after them until they do not return. I've even gotten rid of the big red ones that make those huge holes and their terrain goes over several yards and they just keep spreading.
There are some sprays that are safe around birds and should be ok around your baby butr I would take the baby out before spraying anything. Some sprays demand contact to kill and some have residual actions. Read what you use and use them all. Spray the residual stuff around the outside of your house immediately to stop them from coming in and do it until you have killed every last one. Any you see inside hit with the contact stuff and then spray where they hit the base board and the whole baseboard with residual. With a baby you will want to remove the baby until the apartment airs out. You should go out with the baby too and leave your windows open for a bit. Ants are a way of life and I never had any idea there were so many types, sizes, colors and so many till I moved to south Texas. I have had them come in over the top of my wall and completely cover the wall in black bodies. Then they did it at my bathroom and finally came in over my living room door. I couldn't believe the sheer numbers. It was like a bad horror movie. I sprayed and sprayed and sprayed. Good luck. Keep a very close eye on your baby or let someone keep him until you're safe they are under control.

You need to call an exterminator. That is your best bet. Tell them that you have a baby so they will be aware of that fact. This infestation is too far along for you to handle it yourself.
If you should ever see ant colonies in your yard then one easy way to get rid of them is just to take ants from each colony and put them in the other. They will fight to the death. Easier said than done I am sure but it will do the work the chemicals are unable to do. Please call the exterminator.

Sounds like you may need to call a professional service in to get rid of them. Black pepper and flea powder works for small areas...but it sounds like you have an infestation that will require professionals
